NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), stands for neurology, language, and programming, the three major components that make up the experiences in life.

Our bodies are regulated by our neurological systems. Language is the means by which we communicate with each other. And programming is the result of how we behave as a result of our language and behavior.

Celebrities & NLP

“Russell Brand openly declares NLP as a life saver. When, prior to marrying Katie Perry, he found himself obsessing over fantasy relationships with women rather than applying himself to learning the script for his biggest Hollywood opportunity, he realised he was running an old pattern of self-destruct. The silver screen was always his ambition and yet finding himself on the set of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, his first starring role and the gateway to his dreams, he implemented cleverly devised ways to destroy his chance of success.

Mr Brand, having used NLP to assist his life transformation from junkie to movie star immediately realised the old pattern and potential for disaster. Instead of treading familiar paths he took immediate action and called his Coach from the film set, for a powerful concoction of NLP and EFT to revise his program. The rest, of course, is history – he is now waiting for the release of his latest blockbuster, Arthur and with a healthy lineup of movies ahead.

Movie star Gerrard Butler, super-investor Warren Buffet, tennis ace Andre Agassi and many more have understood the power of the mind and turned to NLP to achieve inspirational results. Often when already successful but finding themselves performing below their optimum potential.” – Source:

History & theory of NLP

NLP is the result of a collaboration of John Grinder and Richard Bandler. Their goal was to create “explicit models of human excellence.” The two wrote a book based on the behavioural patterns based on renowned therapists Fritz Perls and Virginia Satir called The Structure of Magic Vol. I & II.  They went on to write a second book, Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. Vol. I & II, which examined the same patterns of Milton Erickson. Erickson is a widely recognized psychiatrist.

NLP is a layered level of understanding that combines the elements behind how we communicate, our behavior and how we store these understandings to become the programs that we learn to live by. It is also a process that can lead our behaviour patterns to excel and become empowered.

Neuro-linguistic programming is based on our reality of the world. Our reality determines how we behave and how we react to the world. One of the tenets of NLP is “Excellence comes from having many choices. Wisdom comes from having multiple perspectives.”

Here is a quick introduction to the theory by Richard Bandler.

How is NLP administered?

The Neuro-linguistic programming process consists of visualizing your previous patterns based on your fears or area that you want to correct. Visualize yourself changing your behaviour and watch yourself through to your desired outcome.

One way to do this is to picture your life on a movie theatre screen. See yourself playing out your fear or phobia. Then see yourself performing the behaviours that will take you to your desired outcome. You go past the fears and phobias and see the outcome is a success.

The event is to be created just as if it actually happened. Play out the situation exactly as it would actually occur down to the sounds and scents in the room. When you are able to picture the situation you can see it as achievable. Your mind can’t differentiate between something that actually happened and a strong visualization.

What are the benefits of NLP?

The desired result of NLP is a state of excellence. Employing NLP can help achieve the things you want in your personal life. It is already used in business and can improve problem-solving skills, increase productivity, and improve customer service relations.

NLP can help to improve your health by allowing you to see your body heal itself. You can increase your energy level and reduce stress which is the major contributor of illness and disease.

Those in the world of sports already know the benefits of NLP. Athletes use this process to help them visualize a winning outcome. They picture themselves hitting the ball, catching the ball, or getting the ball into the hole on the golf course.
